BIM is not simply 3D drafting. When something changes, every drawing affected must be updated by hand. Errors creep in. Dimensions conflict. BIM works differently. A BIM model is a single, intelligent, data-rich three-dimensional database of the entire building. Every wall, column, beam, window, door, and mechanical duct exists once — and the floor plans, sections, elevations, schedules, and details are all generated from that single source. Change the model, and every drawing updates automatically.

The model carries information beyond geometry: materials, fire ratings, structural properties, costs, and construction sequencing can all be embedded. This is what makes BIM a true planning and management tool — not just a visualization method.

Start Planning Before the Model Opens

One of the most important things a property owner or developer can do is arrive at the first architectural meeting well-prepared. The more your architect understands about your site, your constraints, and your goals from the outset, the more efficiently the BIM model can be built — and the less time you spend on redesign.

Before you commission design work, research your property thoroughly.
